I have an incredible view sitting behind my desk. I get to see who comes in and out of Lifeline, and one day I saw something that caught my attention.
It was one of our youth counselors walking toward the door with a little boy. When I had the chance, I asked the counselor, “Who is that little boy?”
He told me the story. The boy's mother was struggling with alcoholism, and she had come to Lifeline for help from one of our addiction counselors. His father, and his grandmother, were also receiving support through our family counseling services and support groups.
During the process, we suggested that the children become involved too. So the boy came in. He is 7 years old ! At first, he wasn't cooperative and was actually becoming quite aggressive. But after few sessions, he slowly warmed up.
The counselor told me that since then, this young boy has truly blossomed. Through the use of toys, games, and puppets, our youth counselor has been able to help him express himself, heal, and grow in such remarkable way.
Stories like this remind us that addiction affects the entire family—and especially the kids. That's why we must keep this treatment free and immediate.
Thank Gd for our team of caring, qualified and experienced counselors!
